Project Topic: Exiles & Returns: An Emotional Distance

This project explores the contrasting yet oddly resonant narratives of physical and emotional exile and return: the physicist Lenur Arifov, displaced by geopolitical forces and returning to rebuild a life, and Jen Shah, emotionally reclaiming freedom and family after imprisonment. The fold-out pamphlet juxtaposes terse, scientific coldness with raw emotional moments through fragmented texts and abstract shapes, creating a playful and slightly odd dialogue between displacement in history and personal reintegration. It highlights the tensions between identity, time, and place in both forced exile and enforced captivity, inviting intimate reflection on what it means to return. The project emerged from merging the factual, distant world of scientific exile with the emotive, public spectacle of reunion, producing a minor, experimental artifact of human resilience and reattachment.
