This project experiments with the emotional spectrum of freedom and confinement by juxtaposing the profound literary explorations of exile, memory, and family from Yelena Katishonok's work with the raw, immediate moment of an emotional prison release reunion. The miniature accordion zine folds and unfolds in unexpected ways to mirror the tension and release dynamics found in both texts—the layered narratives of migration and translation alongside the raw reality of personal liberation. Its slightly odd format invites intimate engagement, allowing readers to unfold and refold the complexity of human connection, trauma, and renewal in a small, playful object. This project emerged as a poetic synthesis of displacement, transformation, and reunion seen through two very distinct but emotionally charged lenses.
